Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Attachment Butler for Gmail ("the App") is a macOS application that helps you download and organize email attachments from your Gmail account. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this app.

The App stores all data locally on your Mac. We do not operate servers, collect analytics, or transmit your data anywhere.

3. Data We Access

When you sign in with your Google account, the App requests read-only access to:

  • Email metadata: sender name, email address, subject line, date
  • Attachment information: filename, file size, file type
  • Attachment content: file data, only when you choose to download
  • Basic profile: your name and email address for display in the app

The App requests three OAuth scopes:

  • gmail.readonly – read email metadata and attachments
  • openid – authenticate your Google account
  • profile – display your name in the app

These are all read-only. The App cannot modify, delete, or send emails.

4. Data We Store

All data is stored locally on your Mac:

  • Attachment metadata: stored in a local SQLite database in the app's container
  • OAuth tokens: stored securely in your Mac's Keychain
  • Downloaded files: saved to folders you choose on your Mac

No data is ever transmitted to RobinLab or any third party.

5. Data We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

  • We do not collect analytics or usage data
  • We do not use tracking, cookies, or advertising
  • We do not store your data on any server
  • We do not read the body/content of your emails
  • We do not share or sell data to third parties
  • We do not use your data for any purpose other than providing the App's functionality

6. Google API Disclosure

Attachment Butler's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • We only use Gmail data to provide the App's core functionality (browsing and downloading attachments)
  • We do not transfer Gmail data to third parties
  • We do not use Gmail data for advertising or marketing
  • We do not allow humans to read your data unless required for security purposes, to comply with law, or with your explicit consent

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Retention: Local data remains on your Mac until you delete it. We do not control or have access to this data.

To delete your data:

  1. Remove the App from your Mac (this removes the local database)
  2. Delete any downloaded attachment files from your chosen folders
  3. Revoke access at Google Account Permissions

Since we don't store any data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our end.

8. Your Rights

If you are in the European Union or other jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access: Know what data is stored (all data is on your Mac)
  • Deletion: Delete your data at any time (see section 7)
  • Portability: Export your data (files are already on your Mac)
  • Revoke consent: Disconnect your Google account at any time

9. Security

We take security seriously:

  • OAuth tokens are stored in macOS Keychain, protected by your system's security
  • All communication with Google uses encrypted HTTPS connections
  • The App runs in a sandboxed environment as required by the Mac App Store
  • No data leaves your Mac, eliminating server-side breach risks

10. Children's Privacy

The App is not designed for or directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the App, the data would only exist locally on their device and can be deleted by removing the App.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will notify users through the App or via email if we have your contact information.
